We live in SoCal and every year we get hummingbirds nesting in our fruit trees. A few years ago we had one build her nest in one of our rose bushes, which was great for my toddlers because it was at eye level and we would just sit in the backyard and watch her build the nest, then lay the eggs, and once hatched we would watch over the babies while she went to get food for them.
However, one morning we went outside to check on the family and noticed the nest was laying on the ground pretty tattered. Needless to say a neighborhood cat must have got to the nest since it was so close to the ground and the babies were gone. Even more distressing was that the mama kept returning to the rose bush for days just looking and looking for her babies. It broke my heart and I was fighting back tears as I tried to explain the whole circle of life story to my girls.
We have some awesome pictures though of the mama feeding her tiny tiny babies.

Hi AJ,
LOVE the video. Been watching for an hour. :-)

A few questions - where do you live in CA? I would love to have hummingbirds. I'm in TX and know those that get them but no luck for me so far.
Also - the web cam is amazing. Do you mind sharing what type it is?
