My favorite book to read to my kids is the Tickly Octopus. I love it because whenever the word "tickly" is in the book, I tickle them, so they start giggling just anticipating when the octopus would tickle. Also, there is an evil eel in the book, and I do an awesome evil eel voice, if I do say so myself.

One Lucky Duck by Alison Maloney and Martha Lightfoot. For some inexplicable reason, this book has soothed both of my children during fussy times and kept them quiet during long car rides when nothing else will. I have had it memorized for over two years.

My favorite children's story is Guess How Much I Love You. It's sweet and after reading it over and over for the past few years my son will randomly declare things that he loves me more than. I love "competing" with him and the snuggles and giggles that come with reading the book. Plus I can't wait to start reading it to our daughter.

When I was a child, my favorite book was Blue Bug's Vegetable Garden, by Virginia Poulet. It's such a simple story line that follows Blue Bug on his adventures that it is my three-year old's favorite book now too. Although, when I was a kid, I never could understand why Blue Bug was crying if the onion was his favorite food!!

Hug by Jez Alborough. I cry everytime I read it, and my little boy loves to give hugs. He will give hugs when he "reads" it himself, too.

The current favorite books in our house:

Any of the Bear stories by Karma Wilson (Bear Snores On, Bear Feels Sick) - They are just fun stories about friendship that the girls really enjoy.

The Real Mother Goose Classic Lullaby Rhymes because it has the girls favorite rhyme The Man in the Moon.

Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton - they liked the song first and the book just adds even greater appeal.

And many others.

So many come to mind ... my little guy is just 8mos old so he enjoys whatever I read to him right now (and is teething so he spends as much time tasting the books as he does looking at them!). But I have many favorites from when I was young, both as an early reader and as a big sister reading to my brother (who's 9 years younger). One of the first to come to mind, which hasn't been mentioned yet, is "Pierre" by Maurice Sendak. The refrain "I don't care, said Pierre" was often repeated in our home and became a sort of catch phrase (especially with two teens in the house, plus a kindergartner!). And because I can't resist listing another one that hasn't yet been mentioned, I also really love "Caps for Sale" -- about the peddler and the monkeys (the author is Hungarian? so I although I recall the name is something unfamiliar to American ears, I don't remember it exactly -- something like Ephyr Slobodink?). Love the onomatopoeia of the repeating "tzs tzs tzs", the illustrations, and how the monkeys were tricked.

Several that were already mentioned are also favorites: The Monster at the End of this Book, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel, Richard Scarry books, Danny Champion of this World.... I also plan to look up the titles mentioned that are new to me. What a great resource!
