Le Premier Cri: An awesome film you’ll never see

Contest updates and other miscellany will be posted this weekend. In the meantime, here’s a trailer for a French documentary, Le Premier Cri — The First Cry.

Title captions:

  • The four corners of the world
  • Follow the fate of extraordinary women
  • Beyond cultures
  • A universal moment
  • Life holds its breath
  • A film by Gilles de Maistre

The bad news: The film debuted in 2007, apparently didn’t show in America and no DVD is available. Or rather, you could order the DVD from an overseas company such as Amazon, but you’ll need a region-free DVD player and be okay with there being no English subtitles. Oh well. It’s a beautiful film trailer though.

The film’s official website indicates it’s distributed by Disney, no less. No worries. We’ll just watch Hannah Montana: The Movie, High School Musical 3 and A Christmas Carol 3D while we wait.

Disney, I hate you.

Don’t be confused by the English song that auto-plays on the film’s official site.  Sinead O’Connor has a birth song featured in the film.

    It looks beautiful.

We picked up a region-free player on Amazon a couple of years back for about $50 and have not regretted it for one second. At the time we just bought it because it was cheap and we needed a DVD player, but having a region free player in the house has expanded our options so much. I highly recommend the investment.

Yeah, I have a region-free player purchased from a DVD rental store that carries a lot of international films. I like to get my Doctor Who fix without waiting 12+ months. The US DVD releases don’t occur until the scifi and BBC America channels have aired the show.

But in this case, Le Premier Cri would still lack English subtitles.
