I love number 6! I was a headstrong, argumentative little kid, and then “difficult” teenager, and now as an adult I am married to someone who admittedly knows he cannot argue. But knowing how to argue is important in day to day life. I’d rather my daughter know how to stick up for herself and argue than be a complete pushover. And arguing is different from bullying.

I think you can make this an extended post. It’s worthy.

I’ve seen Heinrich’s piece before – I think it’s genius. whatever passed for logic & “discussion” around my dinner table did not pass muster, and like KGS, I picked up few skills re: disagreement & learned to avoid debate.

I think number 6 is awesome. Grad school would have been a lot easier if I’d learned this at the dinner table, rather than picking up a feeling that arguing is often socially awkward.
