Link Roundup #7,124

1. Dora the Explorer grows up — into a tween make-up queen. I guess being a marketing tool specifically designed to suck in toddlers wasn’t enough.

2. Circumcision losing favor with U.S. parents — Down to 55 percent in 2003.

3. More wake-up clock options — I expect you’ll be seeing a review here. I have to get one.

4. Neighbors wage war over 4-year-old boy — He has autism and his neighbors are evil. Sort of happy ending: the neighbors lose at every turn. (See previously: Videos: Think different about autism.)

5. What adopting a white girl taught a black family about race in the Obama era — Very thought provoking.

And because my daughter loves songs from the Sound of Music:

The clip was shot in the Antwerp Central Station for a Belgian TV station as part of its Search for Maria show (translation).

Here’s an amusing trailer for the show. Click the link labeled “Bekijk de trailer” to play. It takes a minute to load.

    Love the video.

Caught the article about cross-race adoption last week. I think that lines are a lot more blurry now than in the past with mixed-race couples and I am not sure this article is right on all counts. I think it is easier now than it would have been ten years ago. My two cents.

I don’t know what it is about those videos, (there’s a bunch of that type, I think), but they ALWAYS make me tear up. Always! Perhaps it’s the idea of people getting together for fun to make other people smile.

    Love that.

Gotta go read through some of the other links.

I read most of the links. I find it promising about the circ rates. I’d like to see the current stats… hopefully the circ rates are going down even more.

As for the adoption story, it is very thought provoking. I find it interesting how just below the surface our issues of race run. I read about a page full of the comments to that story and was shocked at racial views from the commenters. Whoa.
This nation still has a lot of healing to do.

That video totally made my day. What is it about the sound of music that just cheers you up? I would love to have that happen when I was in a crowded place like that, so unexpected.

And 3 cheers for the circ rates going down. Finally, people are getting it. Who knows though, in 30 more years, it might do the old switcheroo again.
