Anonymous,
Don't despair. Yes it may feel like things are bleak, but they aren't the fact that you now have a diagnosis for your son now means that you can take steps to help him.

Yes it will be an uphill struggle for you and your family, but don't give up, autisim is becoming more and more common these days, there are so many other parents out there that have, and are going through the same things as you are.

The internet is an amazing networking tool, filled with communities of other moms of autistic children, you can do all kinds of research and find a great support network. Let other people's knowlage and experience be a comfort to you. A great place to start would be the always wonderful Jenny McCarthy's Autisim website and books. http://www.generationrescue.org/
I hope that you find some good infornmation and support for you and your son. I wish you all the best.

My 3rd-grade son has been bullied since kindergarten, and it's been on ongoing struggle with the school and the other parents to make it stop. Only last week, he was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, and I am in such despair for his safety and well-being. It's only the beginning of a long journey for my family, so I am hoping to find resources that will help. But for now, it feels very bleak.

i find these interesting, and heartbreaking, for all those involved in each scenario, on both sides of the coin. I guess when I think about autism, I think about young kids and not adults trying to function in everyday life.

Thanks for that. I've a few internet contacts that are on the spectrum and while I've always tried to relate to their issues the video's really were an eye opener. I'm gonna troll around the net a little today and continue to ed. myself a bit. Good post.
