Welcome to Thingamababy v.3

Help me kick some tires.

Thingamababy changed hosting companies and blogging software overnight. We also tweaked the fonts, added a few graphical doodads, and have an in-house search engine now. A little tie straightening, if you will. To fight spam, comments are moderated, but after you’ve had a comment approved, you’ll enjoy a green light.

Everything else should be roughly the same, and functioning. If you notice anything odd, please e-mail or post a comment.

I pulled this move off in one night, while my family is sick, by, umm, having someone else do all the work. (Yay!) I am once again indebted to Buz Carter of Pizza By the Slice. Did I say again? More like ongoing, sort of like the US National Debt Clock.

I’ve often referred to him as an artist-who-thinks-he-is-a-programmer. He designed Thingamababy’s look and feel, including the illustrations.  But he wastes his life in some comfortable office job pushing a bunch of 1s and 0s around on a screen.

Today, I am forced to admit he is indeed an awesome programmer. This move was monumental. Other bloggers would spend an insane amount of time converting and configuring, and still be saddled with some pretty big transitional problems (like Google sending people to a bunch of broken URLs).  In fact, most bloggers in my situation would have stayed put because they are too deeply invested in the status quo.

This move was important for me because of a million issues you never saw, but that added up to daily frustration in my trying to perform basic tasks, like, say, write a blog post!

Yet again, thank you Buz for saving the day, and I hope you get some good sleep tonight because I know you didn’t get much last night.

Everyone else… please report any problems, observations or praise for the “new” design. Thanks.

Update #1: Aha, I forgot all of my RSS subscribers who are using what’s now an old URL and thus, umm, aren’t reading this. I’ll get you fixed up tonight.

I can’t sing the praises of WordPress enough. I heart it. Good transition though – I had to just kill my old blog and start over.

Looks great. To tell the truth, I may not have noticed if you hadn’t said anything.

I’m with Midge, I wouldn’t have notices. I may have thought SOMEthing was different, but wouldn’t have been able to put my finger on it. I did notice, however, the comments are color coded in a way. LIke that!

Looking fabulous! I’m making a move to WordPress myself sometime soon. Scary, yet absolutely necessary move to gain some practical features I desperately need. Wish me luck!

I hope you enjoy WP as much as I do.

Oooooh… I like new Comment style. And the spacing seems better throughout… yet, still the same Thingamababy I know and love.

Love the new comments styling. I was worried earlier when I couldn’t get on to the blog, but it was worth it! Looks very clean and crisp. Great job!

Dig the new look, but now it takes more than twice as long as it used to to load up for me. Anyone else having this problem?
