Thinga-Appreciation Giveaway #13

Corduroy DVD box cover

Don Freeman’s classic picture book character Corduroy turns 40-years-old this year. Win a copy of this new DVD being released at the end of this month (that image at right is old… I don’t even have the new DVD cover image yet).

Scholastic is releasing Corduroy and More Stories about Caring, a collection of seven stories adapted for DVD. This new Corduroy features a combination of live action and stop-motion animation. A read-along function is included which highlights words as they are read, encouraging kids to follow the narration.

In this tale, Corduroy longs for someone to take him home from the department store where he lives. Upon noticing one of his buttons is missing, he sets out to find it, thinking that will hasten his purchase. Will he find it first, or be discovered by the store security guard? What of the little girl who would like to take him home with her?

Six more animated stories are included:

  • Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, based on the tale by Virginia Lee Burton and narrated by David De Vries.
  • The Happy Lion, based on the story by Louise Fatio.
  • I Love You Like Crazy Cakes, based on the story by Rose Lewis and narrated by Mia Farrow.
  • Smile for Auntie, based on the tale by Diane Paterson.
  • The Happy Owls, based on the story by Celestino Piatti.
  • Goose, based on the story by Molly Bang, narrated by Laura Dern

One winner each week, for the next two weeks, will take home this DVD!

Rules in Brief

This is about reader appreciation. To enter, simply read and post
comments as you normally do anywhere on Thingamababy.

For each contest, I will select as a winner one user who has posted a comment within the past
week (the first winners get picked next Saturday).

Giveaway Rules

The contest is open to residents inside and outside* the United
States. *Residents of the International Space Station excluded. Sorry
Peggy, Yuri, Clayton, Daniel, Leopold, Garrett and Sheikh, but we’ll be
happy to ship to your domestic address in the event you win.

The contest will run for two weeks.

Officially, the winner will be selected by me based on my own purely
subjective criteria that is free to change from week to week. For the
first week, I will choose a winner at random. If I see a rush of
empty-headed comments being posted, I’ll change the criteria to a true
sense of my personal appreciation, using comment criteria such as
thoughtfulness, educational value or humor.

To be eligible, users must include a valid e-mail address in their
blog comment. Contacted winners must provide their shipping address to
Thingamababy (who will then share it with the artists or their publicists for the purpose of shipping the prize).
Ineligible comments are ones identified as spam by my blog software or
that I would normally delete myself due to their spammy or offensive
