Six Photos from my Boy’s Birth
My son was born today at 6:15 a.m. after 12 hours and 15 minutes of serious labor. The kid is 8lbs. 7 ounces, 20 inches long and is covered with ever-so-light peachy fuzzy hair. And, he only caused his mother a second degree tear. Woo hoo!
Here are a few quick pictures, kind of graphic if you’re not accustomed to childbirth…
That super-blue gloved person is a midwife. There are only 3 or 4 seconds between splash down and suck out, then the baby gets scooped up in a towel and placed on mom’s chest still bloody. One good sneeze and you could be asking, "Hey, where did that baby come from?"
All except that last one were obviously taken in the seconds after birth.
The name? Wilson, after his two great grandfathers (Wilbur and Judson). I fought for Flynn to the very end. It was also favored by our first nurse of the evening who drummed up a list of her favorite Gaelic names for us. I did win a concession that my unusued favorite names will be bestowed upon any and all future household pets. Oh well!
Now, back to the hospital…
