I have read many articles besides the Consumer Reports.org article you mention about car seat safety, and how unsafe it is for a baby in a crash when there is something behind the baby (like the zip up buntings), or inbetween the harness and the baby (like the one piece buntings). That's why I designed and sew a simple blanket called My Carseat Blankie to be used with infant and toddler car seats. I've only been selling them for 6 months, but have gotten a lot of positive feedback. It truley is the perfect size.

Check out this additional web site on car seat safety as well. It totally supports the use of something other than the buntings and zip up items.

Is it really that serious? She doesn't want to wear that thing - just throw a regular blanket over her!!!

That baby looks super uncomfortable and a little perplexed. What ever became wrong with just using these things:

NOT SAFE! I am a car seat tech and nothing should ever go under the baby in a car seat. That could allow the child to be ejected in a car accident. Stick to a simple blanket that goes OVER your child in the car. We have car seat blankets that are left in the car for my children. It's rather cold right now in Seattle. However, my kids still don't wear coats in the car or blankets under them in the car seat. It's just not safe or worth their safety.

Man... I wish it got cold enough here to justify this. My baby is always kicking his blankets off! (and forget trying to keep socks on him!)

I am a huge fan of cotton fleece buntings. They are easy to pop into and out of and don't bunch up. If extra layers are needed, she has a blanket that she drags along anyway. I would have to try that outfit to see how it works.

I put my toddler in a form-fitting fleece coat, no baggier than some of her sweatshirts. Fleece keeps out enough cold to get us to and from the car, and doesn't overheat her when the car warms up. If it's very cold, I'll throw a fleece blanket over her after she's buckled in, but that mostly annoys her.
