As a mother og three (8, 10 and 12 years old now) I have come to think that 90 % of the game is modeling good behavior. Direct verbal encouragement and coaching and criticism is all fine, if you have something thoughtful to say, but what you do is much more powerful, I think.

I want to teach and instill in my child to live his, because that is what it is, his life with passion and love, to survive and enjoy all of life's moments, to know that there is no fear he can't overcome and above all to be a grateful person.

Bev, that reminds me of my favorite cycling movie, complete with mother issues.

"Everything I did was great. Every time I lost, she convinced me that I could have won, that there was no difference between the two." --Marcus (aka Kevin Costner before he lost his acting ability).

There are a lot of ways I'm raising my daughter differently from how I was raised, but I don't harbor resentment toward my parents. What's the point? Everyone's childhood is messed up. Except in cases of mental/sexual abuse, I say it's time to own your shortcomings.

I dunno. It's nice to have goals to aim for. We went for building self-confidence and I have recently been told that we didn't prepare (#1 son) for the realities of life because we were too supportive. Therapy is involved. Makes me wonder what the point of it all is, sometimes. Can't win for losing.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.

About the name, I didn't really need to redact it; I was only concerned with removing the text version so the person's name would be kept out of search results. But given that I blurred my name in the image, I just edited the image to blur the other person's name too.
