Let's just keep in mind that the prospect of parenthood isn't the only reason children should play with dolls if they want to. The fact that they *want* to is enough. So much so that it prompted me to do a video search for all of the clips from the Television special. That's neat how it's just like the book about the older boy who wanted a doll, but not a naked one."</p> <p>The book is also "William's Doll" by Charlotte Zolotow with illustrations by William Pene DuBois, I think.</p> <p>Another good book about gender roles affecting kids is "Oliver Button is a Sissy" by one of our favorites, Tomie dePaola.</p> <p>My son has both of these books as well as a range of dolls, dollhouses, kitchen toys, sewing sets... and knights, pirates, dinosaurs and trains.</p> I played the video clip as my 5 year old son came in the room this morning… when it ended, he said, “Hey Mom!
