Sinister Breastfeeding Commercial

This Japanese breastfeeding video is circulating on social networks. Let’s just say you won’t see something like this air on American television.

I’m oddly disturbed by that, still. I think I was expecting something a little less violent than sibling rivalry and murder… esp. when the intro is so sweet.

It’s NOT a breastfeeding commercial. It is actually a viral video trailer for a movie of some sort.

Check out the top of the Google Translated page for one of the addresses at the end of the clip (http://www.nanokakan.com):

    http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.nanokakan.com/&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://nanokakan.com/%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG

“[bairarumubi] is something which to the last is produced the promotion of the movie as purpose, the story of movie main part altogether there is no relationship. As for the trailer of movie main part, please view with this.”

The other site tsubakiyama.jp is down so you can’t see it.

This appears to be the Wikipedia article for the actress: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emi_Wakui

It includes the notation that her most recent film was:

    “2006 Tsubakiyama kachô no nanoka-kan”

The title meshes with the addresses at the end of the clip (http://www.nanokakan.com and http://www.tsubakiyama.jp).

It is definitely not a breastfeeding commercial, but I have no idea what the movie is about. IMDB lists it as a comedy, drama, fantasy, but doesn’t have a plot synopsis.

This is spreading quickly AS a breastfeeding commercial and I don’t know what that says about us that we think it is. That may be a more interesting question.

Oh, I know it isn’t a breastfeeding commercial. That’s just me trying to be belatedly funny (making sense only after you have viewed the ‘commercial,’ maybe adding to your shock value as you begin watching expecting something different).

I assumed it was an advertisement for life insurance, estate planning or somesuch. It being a commercial for a film, and apparently having little to do with the film itself, makes it a real head scratcher, but still terribly funny if one’s sense of humor swings that way.

Great detective work Jim. I would feel used for spreading a viral video, but I doubt the movie will be released in America, and if it is, that many people will see it (those pesky subtitles making people read).

I don’t normally post a standalone video because it’s unoriginal, but it was an extra item after my “real” post had already been published yesterday, so this was one viral infection that just seemed like harmless fun.

  6. Jim says:

Oh, I know, AJ. I shouldn’t have said that you thought it was a commercial, because you distinctly said “breastfeeding video,” not “breastfeeding commercial.”

I have seen it as breastfeeding commercial on places like reddit (perhaps digg or somewhere else entirely… not sure now). Anyway, the resulting discussions were odd to say the least.

I wouldn’t say you were used either. The movie came out last year and their site appears to be down as well. It’s whois domain record appears to be suspended and is only valid until the 31st of this month.

I am curious about the movie.

I love your site and would never suggest that it was unoriginal. Keep up the good work.

  7. AJ says:

Understood. I do worry about originality. Readers send me some great links, but I’ve often already seen them on lots of sites. If I’m going to put up only one post per day, I hope it’s something new, or at least presented in a new light. Hence, I felt like the Japanese video couldn’t stand alone as the only post for a day.
