The more I visit Thingamababy, the more I realize it is time to take a trip to Humboldt County. I think I know exactly where that shot was taken.

In fact, I think my old Shel Silverstein books are still up there...so now I'll really have to make the trip so I can get them back!

My six-year-old loves Shel Silverstein. My four-year-old loves "My First Winnie the Pooh" by A.A. Milne, which surprisingly is all poems, not Winnie the Pooh stories.
Both of my kids, when 2 and 3, loved our Mother Goose books illustrated by Rosemary Wells (all the characters are adorable little animals). If you like to sing, Wells also illustrated a book of lyrics from Gilbert & Sullivan musicals which is a lot of fun.

Jack Prelutsky also has several kid-oriented poetry collections. I like Silverstein better, myself, but my kids prefer Prelutsky. (And dramatic readings by Dad are always a hit.)

And don't forget mother goose rhymes, either -- there are many illustrated editions if she's in a more visual mood. We have _Sylvia Long's Mother Goose_ on recommendation from some blog, somewhere, about three years ago.
