Pregnant-Mom-on-Board Emergency Signage for your Car

I stayed up half the night thinking about the following product, then something occurred to me, I fell into a deep peaceful sleep and I haven’t thought about it since.

Nighttime marketing photo of a blue, illuminated car rooftop sign which reads: Woman in Labor.
Is it possible for me to immortalize this product in the annals of baby product humor? No. The job has already been done. A picture is worth a thousand words.

The Woman in Labor Alerter Sign is an illuminated, magnetized sign you stick on the roof of your car to alert other drivers that you are transporting a woman in labor. The sign, which reads, “Woman in Labor,” is reminiscent of similarly illuminated signs found of the roofs of taxis which read “Taxi.” The price is $29.99. It comes in blue or pink.

According to an article in the Daily Southtown, a father of four girls invented the sign, reportedly explaining, “Females are very, very receptive to this. They love the idea. [...] And when a lady is having a baby, she’s definitely going to get her way.”

I would like to see a sign that reads, “Screaming child inside,” so as to alert other drivers that there is a distracted parent behind the wheel.

Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.

While I hope most would see this product as humor … Maybe its just me … but I see this product as a liability waiting to happen. I can just see a dad-to-be getting this, and then when the big day happens, getting all exciting and driving like a maniac to the hospital, thinking it gives him the same privileges that a REAL ambulance/police/fire vehicle would have.

As a former EMT, I know that even with a real siren and more flashing lights then 10 Rotating Disco Ball Lamps, there are clueless people that will not see you and/or get out of your way. I cringe for the panicked father that thinks this will help him get through traffic at warp speed.

If I was the inventor of this sign, I would certainly add more of a disclaimer to the site than just “have safe trip” … but then again, I’m not a lawyer …

I think its awesome!!!!!!! My hubby saw it in a Canadian magazine and just loves it! Oh and he is smart enough to know it is just a joke, not something giving him any special rights to speed!
