My kids would immediately seek and destroy the doodad playing the music, perhaps put the skirt on their head, and then go back to their trucks and dolls. of course, my kids aren't the girliest girls.

I'd never spend the money on something so ridiculous, but that's just me.

My daughter received one of these as a gift, and, I have to say, she absolutely loved having the music. I'm not saying ALL TOYS MUST BE INFUSED WITH ELECTRONIC GOODNESS and I kind of agree with everything you've written here. But I also can't deny that this particular gimmick worked for my daughter.

My daughter, who LOVES to dance and has taken 2 years of ballet, has received TWO of these dresses as gifts, and does not use either one. She almost immediately removed the plastic music box (from the hidden inside pocket) and uses the skirt and music box separately. She dances to different music when wearing the skirt (a CD or her own singing) and plays the music box when doing other activities, like seeing how long it takes mommy to go crazy when she hears the same, tinny tune over and over and over again...
