When our oldest (now 9) was going through this monster phase, I just got a sheet of construction paper, colored it with pictures before wrapping it around a regular bottle of lysol room spray and named it "GOOD night spray"

Every night I would spray this behind his door, in his closet and under his bed, explaining to him that it's GOOD night spray and that it keeps all monsters away and out of our house.

It worked the VERY first time I tried it. Our little girl (2 1/2) has just started talking about monsters, so I'll be coloring another sheet of paper to glue onto a can of Lysol for her room. It's easy & it WORKED for mine.
