Baby Life Seat: For Use Over Land, Sea and Air

The Baby Life Seat could be the ultimate car seat—adaptable for motor vehicles, boats, airplanes, shopping carts and strollers.

Take this with a grain of salt because the web site’s contact page states the company is seeking financial investors to initiate production. Elsewhere on the site it’s stated that a prototype has been built.

Let’s marvel at the details.

At sea, it aims to be a legal floatation device which will float free from its marine-designed base in the event of an emergency. It also aims to float the infant face-up (good thinking) with reflective materials making the seat easier to identify. Plus, a water activated beacon light will come in handy, along with an optional tracking device.

In the air, the seat should be securable using the seat belts in commercial and some private jets. The water-safety options again come into play if the plane crashes over water. The seat purportedly keeps an infant "floating high" above the waterline, reducing chance of hypothermia.

OK, in reading this over, it seems the seat’s main draw is water safety, with adaptability for use in car and airline seats and such. Still, it sounds very cool. I’d take it to our community pool for Family Float Night.

It also says the prototype was tested for the U.S.Coast Guard at Underwriters Laboratories and passed the test to be certified as a life saving aid. Sounds serious.
