Consider that a b-zillion people toss $5 for a single meal at McDonalds every week or $20 for two seats at the movie theatre (plus babysitter costs). When I compare the selfish purchases in my life against cool stuff I could give my daughter, my daughter wins much of the time.

(Of course, as I said, I acquired the slippers as a hand-me-down, and the clown costume in the photo was a garage sale find. Maybe I’ll write something someday about the REALLY cool stuff I’d buy if I were independently wealthy.)
