So what sort of storage container/s did you use for Phase 2 - larger toys? And how did it work out?

Curious - are you still using the Target 9-bin shelfing unit?

We have a 15-month old and are just entering the storage war - our first battle is set for Dec 25. Would love to hear an update/recommendation now that you have 2 years hindsight.

My first impression was that the plastic sidewalls were flimsy, but once the dowels were in place the whole structure seemed solid.

I'd heard a couple complaints about the wood racks. One was that a dowel easily broke and another that the dowels bowed with time. Every wood shelf I've owned I've seen bow a little with time.

Plastic won't snap like wood; and bowing will only be revealed with time... but the plastic dowels are oval shaped with the longish side pointed vertically, so that will help. I prefer durable products, but I'm not sure any toddler shelf will outlast its first toddler unless it's made of metal. Mass market American goods are simply not durable, not built to last.

I scored the wood rack with pastel bins at KMart for $40 on sale. It's great for all the little stuff. The bins are a bit thin, but it should serve us well.

I may go to Target for the platic rack too. It looks so sturdy--is it?
