One was that a dowel easily broke and another that the dowels bowed with time. Every wood shelf I've owned I've seen bow a little with time. </p> <p>Plastic won't snap like wood; and bowing will only be revealed with time... but the plastic dowels are oval shaped with the longish side pointed vertically, so that will help. I prefer durable products, but I'm not sure any toddler shelf will outlast its first toddler unless it's made of metal. It's great for all the little stuff. The bins are a bit thin, but it should serve us well.</p> <p>I may go to Target for the platic rack too.
