Yeah, my wife and I had a brief conversation about this just last night. She doesn't want too much identifiable personal information online about us. That's why I only reveal my name and no one elses at thDad. Now, someone with enough internet-know-how and curiosity could find out our information (address, phone #, etc.), but I'm not too worried about it at this point. I am definitely aware of the potential though.

On an interesting side note, someone from my college's magazine found me via my blog and now wants to interview me...because of my blog. :)

About privacy, there are a range of future issues, many of which I can't fathom today, that could arise from publishing my life online. I don't want to saddle my daughter with an electronic legacy that opens her life to anyone who cares to do a few minutes of data mining (a stalker, a kid in her high school, whatever).

Hey, don't get me wrong. A personal blog can be a beautiful historical gift (if you figure out how to easily archive it for accessing 20 years from now when the Internet uses different technologies... maybe print the pages?)

I don't knock anyone for blogging personal details or posting photos. I read the Ex Machina blog, I suspect, primarily because it has photos of Baby Odin just about every day and he is in the general ball park age of my child. It's interesting.

http://snowdeal.org/section/ex_machina/

Keeping your personal information just that...personal, is your perogative. I completely understand your reservations, in fact I gave it some hard thought before deciding to reveal my identity on my blog. I read several other high profile blogs for quite some time before starting mine and found that most of them are very open about their identity. That helped make me more comfortable with the idea.

Now I just hope the stalkers and crazy-folk leave me alone. ;-)
