Where Did the Time Go?
As Mom and Little
Miss were finishing their supper last night about 7 p.m., I lay down on the couch
with a light headache. I was planning to help with Miss’ bath and bedtime and then write a blog entry about who knows what,
but I instead woke up at 2 a.m. to a darkened house.
People say raising a baby is a job in its own right, and I’m here to confirm it comes with all of the mental fatigue of a desk job.
You don’t get a 10-minute rest period every four hours, and you
spend your 30-minute meal break feeding your boss. The only free time
comes when the boss dozes off, and you spend that time catching up on
your work. There is no equivalent for hiding a solitaire game under
your spreadsheet. There is no overtime pay. You never clock out. Even
play is work. You are always on duty.
On the other hand, the job perks are unequaled. The smiles. The laughter. The love.
